1. What is the date of the CONTENDER Triathlon?

2. Do I have to qualify to compete in this event?
No. However, we do recommend competition in distances leading up to the Half Iron Distance of 1.6 miles Swim, 56 miles ride and 13.1 miles run and a medical check by your doctor to check your are physically fit - see our entry waiver and conditions of entry for more details.

3. What is the entry fee? Entries are open.
Entry fee until December 4, 2011 is $125. All entry fees for those signed up on or before December 4, 2011 will include a Swim Cap, Sponsors products. Finish line honours include a Finisher's medal and Finisher's T-Shirt.

4. What is the closing date?
The closing date for individual and team entries is set at midnight on December 4, 2011.

5. Is specific race information (e.g., course maps, event schedule) available?
A comprehensive Competitors Information Booklet is now available as a downloadable PDF file. It contains information on all facets of the event and provides a written briefing on most aspects of race conduct also. Please note that this booklet does not replace the compulsory briefing for the race that will cover all safety aspects of the event for competitors.

6. Whom do I contact to secure a hotel room in Puerto Rico for this event and who are the travel partners?
The Official event hotel is Marriott Courtyard at Isla Verde.

7. Which local bike shop do you recommend I contact to assist with bike repairs?
Our official bike shop partners are Koishma Multisport Store. Telephone;1 (787) 633-3333 and Ielow Bike 1(787) 705-5039.

8. Once I have registered for the event, whom do I contact with an address change?
Please send your full name, athlete registration number and your new address to: infoprtri@gmail.com.

9. Which sports nutrition items will be available on-course?
Please refer to the Athlete Guide for specific product use.

10. If I become injured or cannot compete in the race for any reason, can I transfer my slot to the following year or to another person?
Unfortunately, entry slots are non-transferable to either another race, or another person. For race entry withdrawal, please refer to our comprehensive Withdrawal Policy.

11. What is the distance of the CONTENDER Triathlon and what are the cut-off times for the race

  • Swim – 1.2 miles - Cut off is 1:10 after start in the swim.
  • Bike – 56 miles - Cut off is 5:30 after swim start.
  • Run –13.1 miles - Cut off at the finish is 8:30 after swim start.

12. I know someone who is interested in volunteering during the event. Who do they contact?

13. Are wetsuits needed for the CONTENDER triathlon race?
Puerto Rico waters rarely drop below 25-26C. Wetsuits will not be allowed at these temperatures.

14. The Pasta Party and Mandatory Talk will take place at La Cueva de María, in Loíza during Saturday December 10, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.
